Going to see the ART exhibition

After a long exhausted working week, should find something to relax on weekend. By reading local newspaper, know that a special, unique art exhibition is displaying in the Macau Museum now.

( This is the Macau Museum. Have you noticed that the appearance and location, seems up high at the hill? Yes, it located at the Monte Fort, it has been built into the ancient Fortress. )

Right this time, as a converging platform for Chinese and Western cultures, Macau Museum has brought the marvelous works of joint arts of Switzerland and Foshan of MainLand China paper-cuttings.

Paper-cutting has been one of the fascinating folk arts in the long-standing Chinese decorative art tradition. As early as Han & Tang Dynasties, there was the prevailing custom of women adorning their hair with Fang-Sheng, which was a set of two overlapping rhomboid pads decorated with gold or silver tinsel and scissor-cut silk flowers and birds.

The instrument of paper-cutting is nothing more than a pair of scissors or a small burin. The simplicity of the tool has contributed to the popularity of this art. Chinese maidens and young wives, together with the paper-cut artists, painted the life they enjoyed and cherished with pairs of scissors. Because of the wide diversity of regional cultures and ways of life, their paper-cuttings are seen clearly reflecting diverse styles and condensing regional characteristics. In the north, choice of subjects for paper-cuttings was often vegetables, fruits and livestock, bearing a folksy nature with simplicity, vigour and unconstrained style. At south of the Yangtze River, artists favoured from spring swallows and willows to pavilions, stone bridges and sailing boats, showing a refined, exquisite and refreshing taste. As for Foshan city, it becomes a representative of the modern paper-cutting in China since the implementation of the national reform and open policy. Foshan paper-cuttings are strikingly decorative and rich in tang of life, and therefore enjoy a mass popularity.

This one is a new year greeting-card from a Lecturer in Ningbo University, China

Sounds of Wind-Chimes..
