A Speical JP Map Card and Gift from Jakarta

A very SPECIAL New Year greeting card sent from my Japanese colleague.
How commercial and educational card to promote Sights, Tastes and Toys of Regional JP.

Um..um... now I could found MM and PandaB are living in the no.15 area there.

After opening those flaps, you can see some interesting pictures and learn a bit simple Japanese as well. I like no.9 Kokeshi (doll) and no.24 – takoyaki (but I don’t know what it is)

An Indonesian Bookmark: (From Selba , thank YOU ^_^)

It is not just a little bookmark that simple, at least I learnt those beautiful puppets are all handmade in Ancient City of Yogyajakarta in Central Java. The Puppets date from when Java was a Hindu Kingdom and the puppets are used to retell the epic Indian Ramayana. Originally the story in which the demon king Ramana seized Sita the beautiful wife of Rama was set in Southern India. However Javanese Hinduism transplaced all the events to occur within Java. Now Java is Muslim, the whole court of Java escaped to neighbor Bali where Hinduism still flourishes.

Ya!I am always interested in knowing some legends about the other country.
So mystery and sometime felt errie..(he…he…….)

MoodyMinstrel:

I remember your long poetry about NATTO in your blog, your favorite food, ei?
What does it taste like? I’ve never tried it in the Japanese restaurant in here.

As I know, Mito natto is well-known across Japan, not just in Ibaraki Prefecture.
The same as Fuji apple is famous in JP too. What else of specialties are special in Ibaraki there?
In Main Land China, each province has it’s own specialty. E.G.: Embroidery in HangZhou, Roasted Duck in Beijing..etc.

Oh no - natto! Tastes like soybeans gone bad if ask me. :)

Tako is octopus and yaki means fried. Takoyaki is a popular food sold by steet vendors made putting chopped octobpus and other things in a batter and frying it in a scoop shaped pan so it makes a round dumpling.

Cool card and nice bookmark. Thanks for sharing those.

That's because that's basically what it is: rotting soybeans!

Different varieties have their own flavor, but all of them tend to be rather bitter. The smell is far worse than the taste, though, so if you can get by that it's really not so bad.

Ibaraki's other main products are melons, lotus root, burdock, and pork.

Just by reading PandaB’s explanation about Takoyaki, I have already felt its delicious taste. Truly would like to try it now. 

WHAT??The smell of natto (rotting soybeans) is far worse than the taste
*O*, It makes me think of Durian, I really hate to try it. My whole family love to eat durian, except me.

M.M: Tks. New look in a new Year.

I can't say I like natto, but durian, yes - it's difficult to find someone loves both, eh? :)

Anyway you will like takoyaki, though. What Panda didn't mention is the octopus is crunchy - fresh one, of course! I remember laze around Dontonburi street (Osaka) and have them served hot in late winter - yummy!

I should ask for some tips from you, about the web design thingy...well, maybe later :)))

Happy New Year!

What a nice card of Japan.

Durians are yummy. We have natto here in the form of tempeh though I prefer them deep-fried. Takoyaki reminds me of our local fried anchovies. They go well with a long cool beer.

PP, your new blog design is very pretty - very Oriental. Nice.

Everybody, best wishes for a healthy, wealthy and happy new year. This greeting will surface again in the year of the Boar which begins on Feb 18.
